Infiniti EV Teaser

Infiniti will unveil its produciton-bound LEAF-based electric vehicle in April of 2012.

During the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Infiniti released the first sketches of what we're told is a five-seat, zero-emissions vehicle set to launch in 2014. Based on the platform that underpins the Nissan LEAF, Infiniti's first-ever electric vehicle will be a luxury EV that meets the performance and styling requirements of any vehicle that wears an Infiniti badge.

Last week, at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, Benjamin "Ben" Poore, vice-president of Infiniti's business unit at Nissan North America, reiterated that, come 2014, Infiniti will indeed put a five-seat electric vehicle on sale. Though Poore didn't mention specific details, he stated that Infiniti will officially reveal its LEAF-based electric vehicle at the 2012 New York Auto Show next April.

Will it be a sedan, or a coupe? Front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive? Price? As of right now, there are more questions than answers. At the least, we now know where and when more information will become available: New York, April 2012.
