Nissan LEAF Rolls into Central Pennsylvania

Nissan LEAF

A new Nissan LEAF arrives on the lot of Brenner Nissan in Mechanicsburg, Penn.

Chuck and Angela Bateman of Mechanicsburg, Penn. earlier this month became the first owners of a Nissan LEAF in central Pennsylvania, according to a report on Cumberlink.com. Available for more than a year in only select states, the LEAF's availability is now expanding. The electric hatchback is hitting dealerships across the Midwest and Northeast. For the Batemans, the decision to buy a Nissan LEAF was driven by economics and a concern for the environment.

"Reducing our carbon footprint, that’s the big thing," said Angela Bateman. "The higher the gas price goes, that definitely made a big difference. We’re trading in a gas guzzling minivan." Chuck Batemen added, "And no dependence on oil of any kind, foreign or domestic."

The Batemans intend to use their LEAF for local trips, but will use their hybrid vehicle for longer journeys and vacations. Angela stated, "We looked at a lot of hybrids too, before we decided on the LEAF. Economically it’s a better deal all around."

Brenner Nissan's LEAF Specialist, Mike Ashworth, was enthusiastic when the electric hatchback arrived at the Pennsylvania dealership. "It took me by surprise," says Ashworth. "I was expecting something frumpy and it turned out to be something very spectacular."

The Batemans agree. They are "beyond excited" to join the growing ranks of Nissan LEAF electric car drivers.

I wonder how the horse carriages on the roads in that area will like the Leaf compared with ICE vehicles.
I've driven the Leaf around horses on a ranch and they don't seem to care, with the noisemaker either on or off.
Its good to hear the Leaf is branching out into the heartland.

haha... enjoy it and never look back!

FYI,

“Every year there are some cars that dealers just can't sell fast enough. Edmunds.com tracks these vehicles with its Days-to-Turn (DTT) metric, which discloses how long it takes a car to be sold once it hits the dealer lots. In 2011, the vehicle with the shortest DTT was the electric Nissan Leaf, which had just an average 11-day shelf life at Nissan dealerships.”

I am sure the DTT figure will go down this year but thought I would share.

OOP's I mean DTT figure go up.

Other than some small percentage of orphans, the LEAF is still delivering to a waiting list, isn't it? It sounds like the volume of LEAF production in 2012, although greater than it 2011, could still be low enough that it is still delivering to a waiting list in 2012.

We may need to see the factory in Tennessee come on line in 2013 in order to really be able to figure out what the demand is for even this one model of EV.

Alt-e I agree. Until the Smyrna plant comes on line and is running to full production we will not know the full demand potential. All of the discussion untill then is just speculation.

I cannot express enough how enjoyable it is to drive the Leaf. Most of the public really does not understand how great of a car this really is to just drive. It has lots of power with just really smooth acceleration (no trans shifting), ride is scary quiet and really smooth. It has a really solid feel to it with weight distribution and handles well. Just hard to explain until you drive one. Then when I go back and drive a gas vehicle with the noise and shifting I just want to go back to the Leaf. You can get spoiled. But I am baised so try it for yourself and see.
