Nissan LEAF Available to Rent in London and Paris

Nissan LEAF Europcar

The Nissan LEAF is now available to rent through Europcar in London and Paris.

Nissan and Europcar have teamed up to offer Nissan LEAFs for rent in London and Paris. "There are two distinct reasons for joining forces with Europcar to introduce Nissan LEAF to the short term rental market in these two busy cities," said Guillaume Cartier, vice-president for sales operations at Nissan International. "The first is obvious. With its absence of tailpipe emissions and an outstanding driving pleasure, the Nissan LEAF is the perfect car for the inner city." The second reason, according to Cartier, is the one that could have a more vital impact on the future of electric cars: it would be a low-risk way for drivers to get their first taste of electric driving. "By renting a Nissan LEAF and living with it in real world conditions, they can evaluate the car in their own time," said Cartier.

Europcar will recharge all rental LEAFs at not cost and will waive the usual refuleing fee. Additionally, a Europcar representative trained in electric vehicle technology will meet face-to-face with renters to explain how the vehicle functions. Renters will also have free access to a Nissan hotline, which has been established to answer any questions related to the LEAF.

"Hiring a Nissan LEAF could be the ideal option for motorists keen to reduce their fuel costs and avoid congestion charges," said Ken McCall, managing director of Europcar UK. "At the forefront of electric vehicle technology, it fits perfectly with our philosophy of pioneering sustainable car hire solutions, giving customers a real choice when it comes to car hire."

The pilot scheme runs for three months and, if successful, could lead to LEAF rentals in additional cities throughout Europe. LEAF rental programs have also been established at select Enterprise and Hertz locations in the United States, and are in fact being used to evaluate the technology. Last week, Hertz announced it will be one of six organizations taking part in a three-month pilot program to test cars that charge up, not by plugging in, but by wirelessly connecting to a charging device on the ground below the parked car.

Yes... I'm for this. I wish I can rent a Leaf or any pure EV when I'm traveling for business. Instead of the usual Chevy Impala ;)

I'm pretty sure that Enterprise has them for rent in some markets in the US as well.

Enterprise does rent them in at least 1 US city, Pasadena, CA. It's nearly impossible to find out about them though. As far as I can tell, you have to actually go to the particular rental center. There's very little online.

It makes sense. Few people are ready to make the jump and buy an EV, but few are against renting one for a day.

"Enterprise does rent them in at least 1 US city, Pasadena, CA."

And that's 1 of the exact reason why Nissan should be able to hit the 20K target this year - rental fleet sales. Hertz and Enterprise are expanding their green vehicle fleet, especially in green states (yeah, we really should have 1 more color state, in addition to blue & red, lol).

Business travel has absolutely no reason for getting something like a Chevy Malibu or equivalent (corp rental rarely goes to the compact size class like a Cruze or Versa, let alone subcompact like the Yaris or Accent). I've been to quite a few business trips, and my distance to travel from hotels to local office were about 2-5 mi 1 way. The drive from airport to hotel is about 10-15 mi. Besides, I park at the office for 6-8 hours straight (plenty of time to recharge). More importantly, there was 0 chance to go for a long drive during business travel...

There are some companies that actually have charging stations available on site, such as Oracle HQ, Google HQ, etc.

Personally, I hate fleet sales though, but if something is priced right for the mass market, in the case of i and LEAF, it will allow the public to really learn about EVs (not hybrid or PHEV), and how they can satisfy the lives of 95% of the US population, it's all good.

The rentals should allow more people an easy way to try the cars out. I'll never forget the time I got rear ended and had to 'try' a Chevy Cobalt for two weeks. I decided after bumping my head thirty times against the door beam that there would be no Cobalts in my future. hehe

Nothing like driving an EV to fall in love with EVs.
