California Calls for 1.4 Million Electric Vehicles by 2025
Earlier this month, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) proposed a new package of tough clean vehicle standards, which the agency calls the Advanced Clean Cars program. The program, aimed at vehicles manufactured from 2015 to 2025, is a mash-up of existing standards that currently are separately tracked. The target to keep your eye on is CARB’s goal for electric vehicles. Starting in 2018 and running through 2025, CARB proposes a target of selling enough zero emission vehicles (ZEV) to put 1.4 million of them on the road by 2025.
Electric Car Buyers Ditch Comparison Shopping
Most people don't buy a new car without doing some comparison shopping. But that's not possible yet for those eager to park a new pure electric car in their garage.
California Energy Commission Extends Clean Vehicle Rebates in California
Today the California Energy Commission (CEC) and the Air Resources Board (ARB) officially finalized an agreement that will make many EV early adopters in California smile. The interagency agreement, which was publicly announced on Plug In Cars in January, puts an extra $2 million dollars in the state rebate program, known as the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP). In an effort to provide more rebates for more consumers, ARB is increasing the available funding and reducing the rebate amounts for 2012.
Bi-Partisan Representatives Introduce New Act to Promote Electric Cars
There aren’t many initiatives that Republicans and Democrats can quickly agree upon, but deployment of electric cars is one of them. Both sides of the aisle support a strong EV future in the United States, as a strategy for job creation and reducing dependence on oil. Today, U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL) joined Reps. Edward J. Markey (D-MA), Jerry McNerney (D-CA), and Anna Eshoo (D-CA) to introduce the Electric Drive Vehicle Deployment Act—legislation designed to fast track the deployment of energy-saving electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid technologies.
