In Veiled Sales Pitch, A123 Warns about Dangers of EV Quick Charging
Last week, battery manufacturer A123 Systems explained in its corporate blog that some lithium-ion batteries are not built to withstand constant quick charging. Andy Chu, A123′s vice president of marketing and communications, states, "While some vehicles currently claim to offer 30-minute fast charge capability using these technologies, owners are urged to only use this capability sparingly to minimize battery degradation and reduced life." Then, he pivots to a sales pitch for A123's technology.
Alliance for Wireless Power is Formed
Lead by Samsung and Qualcomm Incorporated, the Alliance for Wireless Power aims to promote global standardization of a wireless power transfer technology. The group believes that wireless EV charging could bring new levels of ease and convenience to electric car drivers.
Plug-In Vehicle Tax Credits for 2011 Could Hit $150 Million
US consumers are eligible to receive up to $150 million in federal and state tax credits for the 18,000-plus electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles purchased in 2011.
SAE Unveils Combined Charger System
The SAE's soon-to-be unveiled Combined Charging System "integrates one-phase AC-charging, fast three-phase AC-charging, DC-charging at home and ultra-fast DC-charging at public stations into one vehicle inlet."
Delphi Unveils Range-Extending HVAC System for Plug-In Vehicles
Delphi Automotive is developing an advanced HVAC system that could be used to extend the range of electric vehicles by up to 10 percent. Delphi aims to commercialize its range-extending HVAC system by 2015.
